Mr. Giles D. Loftin, age 71, of Dillsboro, passed away very unexpectedly Monday evening, July 25, 2011 at Dearborn County Hospital in Lawrenceburg. Giles was born Sept 11, 1939 in Bearfort N.C. to William Loftin and Martha Longest Loftin. Giles spent 22 1/2 years serving his country in the US Coast Guard, winning several medals and commendations for his service during the Viet Nam Conflict. Following his retirement, Giles was employed at the US Post Office in Ft. Lauderdale, FL for over 10 years. He married his wife, Faye Murray and was devoted to her in every respect. Giles & Faye moved to Dillsboro 16 years ago and Giles immediately became active with American Legion Post 292 in Dillsboro, serving as Post Commander. In recent years he was active with his wife, Faye, in maintaining and managing the bar area of the Post. His wife, Faye and Post 292 were his life for many years. Aside from those duties he enjoyed his Saturday morning cartoons. Besides his wife Faye, Giles is survived by 3 sons; Giles Loftin Jr. and his wife, Rochelle of New York: Donald Loftin and his wife Xuan, of Belleville, MI and Robert W. Loftin of Virginia; 1 step son, Jim, and his wife, Rita, of Tennessee; 1step daughter, Rhonda and her husband, Tim Braun of Cincinnati; 19 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren; 1 brother, Bil Loftin, and 1 sister, Vera Weatherington. He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 brother, Brian, and a daughter, Jamie Loftin. In keeping with his family's and with Giles wishes, there will be no funeral service or visitation.
