Ray Wandstrat

Raymond J. (“Riverman”) Wandstrat, age 82, of Dillsboro died on Wednesday, September 21, 2016, at his home with his family by his side. Ray was born on June 25, 1934 to Theodore A. and Mildred (Meinerding) Wandstrat in Cincinnati, Ohio. He graduated from Roger Bacon and completed 2 years at University of Cincinnati. In 1955 he married Mary Evelyn Elsaesser. They were blessed with one daughter, Stephanie Cappel,EdD (Ray) of Cincinnati, 4 sons; Greg (Karen) Wandstrat of Cincinnati, Chris (Lisa) Wandstrat of Dillsboro, David (Kathy) Wandstrat of Cincinnati, and Ken Wandstrat of Oakland, CA,. Ray worked as a chemist for GE, was a marina owner and operator of Western Hills Yacht Club and Ray’s Marine on Spring Grove Ave. He later built Anderson Ferry Marina. Ray was a parishioner of St. Mary’s in Aurora, founder, charter member and first president of Cincinnati Marine Dealers Association, past president of Riverfront Kiwanis, member of Aurora Eagles, American Legion Post 292, and Dillsboro Civic Club. Ray served his country in the Naval Reserves from 1952 to 1960.Ray was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Ruth Milligan. Surviving is his wife, 5 children, and 13 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild, and 4 brothers, Herb, Ted, Bob, and Tom Wandstrat. A memorial mass will be held on Saturday, October 1, 2016 at 10:00 A.M. at St. Charles Catholic Church, 213 Ripley St. Milan, IN 47031. This will be followed by a gathering at the American Legion Post 292 in Dillsboro. Memorials may be made to Samuel W. Bell Home for the Sightless 3775 Muddy Creek Rd.
